What is stretch mark tattoo camouflage?

If you have had previous surgery, been involved in an accident or have stretch marks, we can disguise these with medical camouflage. Although we do endorse being happy in your skin and being proud of your stretch marks, we understand it can affect people's confidence.

The medical camouflage procedure is a form of  micropigmentation.  Pigments are carefully selected and mixed to match your surrounding skin tone and inserted into the deeper layers of skin using a needling device to correct the color, making scars or stretch marks appear less visible.

What kinds of stretch marks or scars can you treat?

It is vitally important that the scars or stretch marks are lighter than the overall skin tone and not raised. The scars or stretch marks need to be “healed” and usually 2 years+ old. Stretch marks and scars cannot be red as this indicates the scar or stretch mark hasn’t fully healed.

If they are red you may benefit from some MCA needling sessions which can gradually lighten or soften the scar/ stretch marks. Some clients may require 2-3 sessions of MCA needling prior to the insertion of pigment which we can advise during your consultation.

Reduce the appearance of your scars & stretch marks today!

If you have had previous surgery, been involved in an incident, or have stretch marks, you can disguise any scars using skin color ink tattooing. Scar Camouflage makes your scars less visible and blend in with your natural skin color. We may or may not also use inkless MCA needling and / or micro-needling to reduce the actual scarring before tattooing the area. This will be discussed at your initial consultation.

FAQ'S

Can I get this done while I'm tan?

We are in the process of creating a customized color blend to match your natural skin tone. If you happen to be tan at the moment, we recommend waiting until your skin returns to its base color. This ensures that we can achieve the most optimal and natural blending results.

It's important to note that if you tan after getting the camouflage tattoo, the tattoo itself will not alter or change color. However, your natural skin tone may darken. Since our goal is to make nearly white stretch marks and scars darker to harmonize with your base tone, they will still be less noticeable than they were previously.

To safeguard the tattoo pigment from fading, it's advisable to apply SPF 30 or greater sunscreen to the camouflaged region.

Is the procedure painful?

This procedure typically doesn't cause significant discomfort, with the majority of patients rating the sensation at around a 4 out of 10. Although we are still implanting pigment into the skin, the depth is less than that of a conventional tattoo. At Gleam, we also provide the option of using numbing cream for those who desire a more comfortable and pain-free experience.

How much does it cost?

The cost will vary depending on the area you would like treated. Pricing ranges for new clients from $650-$750 per area and for return clients from $500-$600 per area. We require a consultation prior to your treatment to assess that you are a good candidate for the treatment and provide exact pricing.

How long will it last?

Inkless tattoos and camouflage tattoos are two different types of tattoo procedures with varying degrees of permanence and maintenance requirements. An inkless tattoo creates permanent results as it promotes collagen production and improves skin texture.

Camouflage tattoos are traditional tattoos created to conceal or blend with specific skin imperfections or scars. These tattoos are intended to be permanent and are typically ink-based. As with all traditional tattoos, camouflage tattoos are considered permanent because they involve injecting ink into the dermal layer of the skin. Over time, like any other tattoo, camouflage tattoos can also be affected by factors such as aging, sun exposure, and lifestyle choices. This can lead to fading, color changes, or other alterations in the tattoo's appearance. Some people may choose to have touch-up sessions every 3-5 years or as needed to maintain the appearance of their camouflage tattoos.

How many sessions will I need?

On average, individuals typically require between 2 to 3 treatments, encompassing both the initial treatment and subsequent follow-up sessions. In certain instances, a patient might necessitate as many as 4 treatments.

This treatment doesn't offer complete scar or stretch mark removal; instead, it enhances their appearance by stimulating collagen production and blending skin tones to help them fade. The sole method for complete elimination of stretch marks or scars is through surgical procedures.

Does this treatment actually remove the stretch marks?

This treatment doesn't remove scars or stretch marks, it is just blending skin tones into the skin to make them disappear. The only way to fully remove stretch marks/scars is surgery.

Is it safe for all skin types?

Camouflage tattooing is safe and effective for all skin types, however it works best on certain colors of scars/stretch marks.

What is the down time?

Following the initial treatment, downtime is minimal. For instance, you won't be able to shower the evening after the procedure or engage in workouts for six days post-treatment. Typically, you can resume your regular routine after one week, excluding exposure to the sun. Nevertheless, complete healing may take between 45 to 60 days. If you are susceptible to hyperpigmentation, it may require 60 to 90 days or, in rare instances, even longer for full recovery.

How fast will I see results?

Your complete results will become visible once you've fully recovered from your initial and follow-up treatments.

Stretch Mark Camouflage Before & After

On your first session we will carefully select skin tone pigments and mix them together using a mixing solution that can prevent color change. This pigment is then inserted into the skin using a needle device much like what is used for semi-permanent make up application.  A color match test is performed on a small area to see how the pigment takes in the skin; this can usually take up to 60 days for full healing.
